PUFFINS ENJOY SUMMER FOREST SCHOOL!

Puffins have been busy enjoying their second round of Forest School.
In week ONE we made and designed our own project from wood
Puffins were challenged to make a bead from elder twigs.  The wonderful thing about elder is that the middle is spongey, making it ideal for design projects!
After a demonstration and safety discussion from Mrs Greggs, Puffins used a giant ruler to check their piece of elder was 5cm long and then safety gloves and palm drills to make their bead.
There was the option to make a bracelet or amulet by threading wool or string through the bead, It was tricky work but worth the effort and concentration.
In week TWO Puffins noticed patches of shade and sun on the field as well as the difference in temperature. From a cool, shady area we then lay on the ground (making sure not to look at the sun) and looked at the clouds. We found lots of different shapes including dragons, rabbits and rockets!
The pond at Forest School is looking beautiful at the moment and this gave us the perfect opportunity to talk about the lifecycle of a frog and pond dip! We found newts, dragonfly nymphs, water-boat men and even a leech!
