Outdoor Science in Woodpeckers
Woodpeckers are revisiting their science topics to finish off the year, and have been enjoying the wonderful sunshine too!
Last week they looked at the digestive system, and how organs work together to break down the food. They recreated the digestive system using orange juice as stomach acid and a pair of tights as the intestines. It was messy and fun... and resulting in some interesting by-products!
This week we headed to the wildlife area and did some pond-dipping as part of our work on animal habitats. We found water boatmen, dragonfly larvae, great diving beetles and even some newt tadpoles! Also, Kingfishers also lent us some microscopes so we got a very good look at some of the plants we found.
