Kingfishers at Forest School

This week at Forest School, to link in with our history topic, we pretended to be prehistoric hunters. We talked about how prehistoric people sourced their food and then role-played stalking a deer (Mrs Greggs!).  We practised our stealth tracking and tried to reach the 'deer' without it hearing us!  It was difficult being so quiet but we managed to catch our lunch!

All this before reaching the Forest School site where the focus was birds' nests. We looked at pictures of different types of birds, their nests and then discussed how they might have been made.  Our challenge was to make our own!  Working in teams, we built nests using materials from around the site, including sticks, grass, moss, sheep's wool and mud!  Just like in the wild, every nest was unique; positioned in different places and designed to meet specific needs of the makers.
