Year 6 at Forest School

It was a beautiful day for Year 6's Forest School Session.

We started the day by taking a few moments to 'move' from the classroom in to nature by quietly observing, with as many senses as possible, all the activity of the wild around us.

There was then lots of time to explore the Forest School site, choose from the various activities set out within the area as well as initiating their own ideas:
Mini beast hunting with some wonderful finds including grasshoppers, a beautiful moth and a sleepy toad, mud cakes, mud balls for target practise, elder beads for bracelets and necklaces, carving chalk amulets and figurines, decorating our faces with mud and chalk paint, weaving beautiful gods' eyes to ward off evil spirits and whittling spears.

We had a picnic lunch on the field and then a lively game of Hedgehogs which involved working out which member of Year 6 was hibernating (under a blanket!).

It was a wonderful way to celebrate Year 6's hard work and the upcoming end of their time at St James.
