Year 2 in the Forest

This week, St James Primary held its very first Forest School sessions; starting with Robins. Here's a summary of their exciting day...

We acquainted ourselves with the site by playing the 'woolly worm' game. Working in groups we looked to find as many orange, white and black 'worms' that had been put on the ground by Mrs Greggs. We noticed that it was much more difficult to see the black worms and then talked about how woodland minibeasts and bugs tend to be darker colours; making it easier for them to hide from potential predators, such as birds.

The rest of our sessions were spent exploring the different areas of the Forest School site. There was so much to do from bug hunting, digging to Hawaii in the digging pit, balancing and walking on logs, making the biggest mud brownie in the world, opening a woodland cafe that served mud hot chocolate and cakes to finding the ideal place to hide and making dens.

It was a great start to Forest School!
