Soldier In A Trench - WW1 Diary Entry By Jack, Year 6

Wednesday, 10th November

Dear Diary,

My heart was beating faster than a bullet, as bombs rained down, men screaming and shouting as one by one they dropped dead. As I listened to far away battles, step by step my boots sank further into the mud.

The trenches are wet and as you start to fall asleep, rats crawl across your face. The lice are itchy and not just on your hair, on your body as well.

My friend, Jim, went over the top yesterday. I broke down in tears when I heard his scream.

I begged the General, asking him if I could go home to my family.
