House Captains & Head Pupils

A couple of weeks ago we ran the interviews for House Captains 2019 - 2020. 

Usually we ask the children to deliver a speech to their respective Houses and the children vote for who they think would lead them best, but we felt this could become a popularity contest and it put a lot of children off applying. 

Instead, this year children had to fill in an application form and send in a covering letter. We used the categories of school values, leadership and the content of the forms and letters to whittle the applicants down to 16 interviewees. 

Interviews were carried out over a week and we ended with 10 children who we felt would make the most fantastic leaders. Two of these children were such all-rounders that, for the first time, we introduced the roles of Head Pupil. 

Head Pupils will lead the House Captains and become extremely important members of the St James team. They will also lead the School Council and guide visitors around the school, as well as many other things.

Well done and thank you to everyone who took the risk of entering the process. It shows true resilience.
