St James E-News

16th July 2020

Welcome to the St James Primary School's E-News, a weekly roundup of the latest goings on at the school.

Latest Headteachers Blog

Dear Parents,

As some of you may already know, Mrs Olver gave birth to a baby boy called Marley last Friday.  We sent her some lovely flowers on behalf of us all earlier this week to say congratulations. If you would like to send her a message, please do contact the office and we are happy to pass anything on.

We were also delighted to welcome Mrs Bate back to school last week following the end of her maternity leave.

Welcome to our new Penguin parents, receiving the E-news for the first time this week.  We look forward to getting to know all our new children and their families next term.

Thank you, (again!), for all your patience and understanding as we send out lots of information about September, now and before term starts. We are trying very hard not to bombard you with lots of information all at once,  as we know it is hard to keep up with it all, but much of it is extremely important so please make sure you read it all through.

Finally, I have been chatting with many parents on the gate about how you have managed the home learning and I know many of you have struggled, especially as time has gone on. We completely understand this and are busy putting together our catch-up plans for September. Please do take time to fill in the online feedback form that went out with reports about your child's home learning, this will be invaluable to us in September. when teachers meet you to discuss how best to support your child.

Next week we will be sending home a couple of easy, simple ideas to support your child over the summer. One is the Summer Reading Challenge, (link below) which we would really encourage your child to take part in, and there will be prizes for those children who complete the challenge. Research consistently says that reading widely and talking together can have a huge impact on a child's learning, even over a short period of time. You may feel that your child's learning is a little bit like the snakes and ladders game, and that their knowledge has slipped a long way down a snake, but a little reading and talking together can get children a long way back up a ladder!

Best wishes for a lovely weekend,

Valerie Elliott
