Special Delivery!

This week our learning came to life when an 18 ton Hi-Ab crane lorry parked up for the day in the St James playground.

Wincanton Logistics who operate the "Big & Bulky" deliveries for Wickes Building Supplies, arrived laden with donations for the rejuvenation of our poly tunnel area and ECO shelter project.

Easy does it..........checking in the delivery - Top soil, check. Fence posts, check!

The children were amazed by the sophistication of the £100,000 lorry - watching the remote control crane, self-levelling hydraulic legs, automatic weighing bed, all round mirrors and cameras and the complexities of driving and operating a large lorry.

Every class came out with learning objectives - some of those included mass and volume comparisons, safety and working outside, observational still life art....and the building of the 3 Little Pigs' Houses!

Maths comparisons.          Art class.                    Safety - can you see us in the cab?

Steve the driver was surprised by the by the range of the questions he was asked about the lorry, it's operation, his job and safety. Martin commented that every child waited so patiently for their turn, excitedly asking questions as they took to the wheel - the hydraulic seat was a great hit!

...& this button?            How high can it go Steve?....Wow!   Keeping a safe distance!

Teresa was shown around the poly tunnel area and is looking forward to seeing pictures of its transformation in the coming months.

The children were so engaged and inspired that child-initiated activities and conversations occurred back in the classrooms.

Inspired  - driving, team work and junk modeling.

A very big thank you to Martin, Regional Operations Manager & Steve, Driver, both from Wincanton Logistics and Teresa, Manager for Wickes Building Supplies Farnborough, for their time and very generous donations and gifts for our school.
