Penguins Celebrate Chinese New YeaR

Penguins celebrated Chinese New Year today (Friday 24th) with an array of activities.  We listened to the story of how the Jade Emperor asked the animals to race across a river to decide the 12 years of the Chinese Zodiac.  Afterwards, we left props out for the children to act out the story for themselves.  Some chose to make their own characters.

We also talked about how the Chinese celebrate their new year and watched dragon dancing and listened to traditional music.  We had Chinese letter and numeral characters for us to explore and use.  We even made our own Chinese lanterns.

We also prepared our own spring rolls which we shared as well as prawn crackers during a special Chinese snack time.  They were delicious, even though they were full of vegetables!
