Our Approach to Safeguarding

We at St James Primary School recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils.

We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.

We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. Child protection forms part of the school’s safeguarding responsibilities.

Safer Recruitment

We ensure that all staff interviews include at least one interviewer who has been specifically trained in safer recruitment procedures.

Enhanced DBS checks are required for all members of staff, governors and regular helpers. All adults who come into regular contact with children in school are required to sign to say that they have read and understand the requirements of the government’s latest safeguarding documentation.

Safeguarding children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. If you are concerned about the safety of a child, young person or an adult you can contact the Surrey Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).

The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) responds to initial enquiries about children, young people and adults. The MASH is based at Guildford Police Station and combines Children's Service social workers, Adult's Service social workers, and health and police staff.
