St James E-News

25th February 2021

Welcome to the St James Primary School's E-News, a weekly roundup of the latest goings on at the school.

Latest Headteachers Blog

Dear Parents,

It was a huge relief for us here at St James Primary when Boris Johnson announced on Monday that schools will be fully reopening on Monday 8th March.

I want to thank staff, governors and parents for the extraordinary work everyone has put in over the last two months to ensure that the children do not miss out on their learning, whether the children have been at home or here in school, it has been a huge communal effort.  I am really hopeful that we won't have to return to remote learning again, but even if we do, I think we have managed to develop a system that supports the children as best we can.

Further information about the full reopening of school are in my letter which is on the parent portal.

Best wishes for a lovely weekend,

Valerie Elliott

School Notices

  • Off Screen Learning Day tomorrow, Friday 26th January -  Please see the email sent to parents on Tuesday regarding the postponed INSET day.  We are remaining open for onsite learning for children of key workers who have requested a place.  The teachers will be providing off-screen activities for tomorrow, and there will be no class meetings.   We will rearrange the INSET day for later this academic year and will notify you as soon as this date has been arranged.  This is in addition to the INSET day already arranged for Friday 28th May, which will remain.

  • Parenting Courses - There are two excellent parenting courses available for our parents next month, One for parents of 3 - 10 year olds and one for parents of teenagers.  Details are available on the parent portal.

  • Memory and Sleep Study - The University of York are looking for parents willing to help them gather data for their memory and sleep study.  Details are also available on the parent portal, there is an opportunity for participants to be entered into 3 prize draws.
  • World Book Day Gifts - We were very grateful to receive a gift of books from Godalming children's author Susan Moore this week.  She is keen to help local primary school children celebrate World Book Day by giving copies of books from her Power Families series - ‘Max Power and the Bagpipes’ and “Ella Power and the Sun Puppies’ (Ages 4-7) and has kindly given us 30 copies of each book.  We look forward to sharing these with the children later this term.
