St James E-News

21st January 2022

Welcome to the St James Primary School's E-News, a weekly roundup of the latest goings on at the school.

Latest Headteachers Blog

Dear Parents,

This week St James Primary had a visit from the Assistant Director of Education for Inclusion, Tracey Sanders, responsible for South West Surrey. Our school has been recommended as a good example of Inclusive practice and she was keen to understand how we approach supporting children with additional needs.  As you know, our work has been made more challenging as a result of last year's cut in SEN funding for our school and we've had to make some difficult choices since. However, St James continues to strive to support all children as inclusively as possible.  This remains central to our school ethos.

We are keen to hear from anyone who can help restore our old school maypole which we are hoping to use in school and at village events. It lacks a proper stand and some of the ribbons need replacing, so if you know of anyone who can help please let us know.

As you already know, our school caterers Twelve15, are experiencing staffing problems which has led to the children being provided with packed lunches as a temporary measure.  We constantly monitor the quality of the meals and feed back our concerns to Twelve15 and Surrey County Council on a daily basis.  If things don't improve we will look at alternative suppliers, although this isn't a quick process.

Lastly, thank you for your support and patience as we update our advice and policies in the light of rapidly changing government guidance. We aim to implement and update all our communications as soon as possible, but this does take a bit of time, so please bear with us.

Best wishes for a lovely weekend,

Valerie Elliott

  • Our New St James Mobile App, An Easy Way To Keep Up To Date With Us In The Palm Of Your Hand - a new version of our app is now available to download (for free) in the Google and Apple App Stores. The app contains our calendar, term dates and other useful information. It provides a particularly useful service, reminding parents of class and whole school events the day before. Please uninstall the St James Primary School app that you have been using and follow this link to the webpage to download the Greenhouse Schools App and find the pass code you will need. Further instructions on how to personalise the app are available here and on the Parent Portal. There will, inevitably, be some teething problems and we are regularly checking the app and liaising with the app designers. Please bear with us, it is not necessary to notify us of any anomalies.

  • School Clubs - The final clubs list is now available on the Parent Portal, please check to see if your child has been given a place in one or more of the clubs of their choice. Please go onto Scopay to pay your child's school-run club fees by Friday 11th February.

  • Surrey's Free Family Weight Management Programme - Please see the Be your Best Flyer on the Parent Portal which has information about Be Your Best Surrey’s free family weight management programme. You can follow Be Your Best on Twitter @BYBSurrey and visit the Be Your Best website at www.bybsurrey.org for regular updates and useful information on how we are encouraging families to lead a healthy lifestyle.

  • Downloadable Forms - There are a number of forms available to download from our website including our Morning and SuperStars Joiner Pack, Consent for Medication Given at School and School Tie Order Form. Please follow this link to see what is available.

Covid-19 Information

Please remember; if your child (or a member of your family) has Covid-19 symptoms please do not send your child to school - Please immediately arrange a PCR test for your child, if symptomatic, and inform the school office as soon as possible.  Please do not send your child to school at least until you receive the test result and not before they are well.

From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.

The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.  If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.  Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.

Further information on self-isolation for those with COVID-19 is available.

Whilst Government guidance no longer requires members of the household of someone testing positive to isolate for ten days, we would ask that you keep your child at home for the period of isolation to give a further level of protection to the physical and mental health of all members of our school family.
