St James E-News

16th April 2020

Welcome to the St James Primary School's E-News.

Latest Headteachers Blog

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a restful Easter break, even if it was just for a few days. Believe it or not, next week sees the start of the summer term and teachers will be adding new work and activities to their DB class pages, as well as hard copies in the class boxes as requested. (The class boxes can be found just inside the front entrance if the school.) We have also set-up some new exciting online learning activities outside of DB primary, so please see further details below and class letters in the portal.

We know not every family can take advantage of the online work because of limited access to a device, so if you have a spare laptop or tablet that you no longer use we would be very happy to take it from you! We have a parent who is willing to prepare and secure the devices for use with children, so all we ask is that you delete all personal data from them. Please can you email info@st-james-elstead.surrey.sch.uk if you have a spare device you are willing to donate. The device must be able to run DB Primary please.

Once again, thank you for all your support and help these past few weeks. We are starting to plan for reopening the school which we hope will be next month, but as we all know nothing is as yet certain. In the meantime, if you have any queries about work set then please email the class teachers via the class email.

Take care,

Valerie Elliott

New Online Services

ActiveLearn

Active Learn is an online learning platform owned by the company that provides us with Power Maths, they have temporarily made their other online resources available to us during this time of home learning. We have set up all the children; please view the letter here detailing the login details.

Nessy

We have recently been trialling a online software programme called “Nessy” which is designed to support children with their reading and spelling of individual words in a fun and interactive way.  Nessy is suitable for Y1- Y6. The company has offered us free access to their programme for all of our children whilst they are not at school. This free offer currently ends on 3rd June 2020. Take a look here nessy.com/uk. This website requires us to share children's dates of birth, along with their name, so we need to ask for your consent.  If you would like to benefit from this free offer and consent to us sharing your child's date of birth as part of the set up please click here to register. Please complete the form by 10am Wednesday 22nd April and we will be in touch with the details.

TTRockstars for Robins

We have been successfully using TTRockStars in KS2 for several years and now Robins are joining in with the fun! Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice, please have a look here: ttrockstars.com

Children will be issued their own login details; please email Mrs Olver and Mrs Wardill on robins@st-james-elstead.surrey.sch.uk to receive your child's details.

Anti-Bullying Alliance

We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded Gold Status by the Anti-Bullying Alliance for our work on the All Together scheme. This is a programme aimed at effectively tackling bullying in schools. Led by Mrs Jenkinson, the school has worked on the scheme for the last six months and this has included surveying the children at the start and the end of the programme for their views about bullying in school.  Well done to everyone involved and we will continue to work hard to ensure bullying remains a rare occurrence at St James Primary School.
