St James E-News

9th July 2020

Welcome to the St James Primary School's E-News, a weekly roundup of the latest goings on at the school.

Latest Headteachers Blog

Dear Parents,

We have almost finalised our plans for a full reopening and look forward to welcoming ALL year groups back on Thursday 3rd September. We will be discussing our plans with governors this evening, but as before our priority is the safety and well being of the children and staff.  Further details will be sent out next week and before term starts in September, but there is one important, small change that we wanted to let you know about now. The government continues to stress the importance of learning outdoors, especially physical activity, so we have made a small change to uniform requirements; the children should come to school in September wearing plain black/grey/white trainers instead of black school shoes. The rest of the more formal uniform should be worn in September as the children did before the lockdown.

We are also putting together a comprehensive catch-up programme for all children, but particularly those who have been out of school since March.  Next week, when reports are issued, we will be asking you to give us feedback on the work your children have done whilst out of school, and we fully understand how challenging it has been for many families to provide an education whilst working at the same time.

With a view to school life moving closer to normality in September we are looking at how we should proceed with our before and after school childcare.  Please read the entry in the school notices below.

Finally, if your child is anxious about returning to school for their transition day and September, we recommend you watch our back to school video together, made by children who have returned to school this term.  The video goes through all the changes to school life in a reassuring, relaxed way and can be found in our News Blog section.

Best wishes

Valerie Elliott

School Notices

  • Transition information - please read the letters on the Parent Portal regarding information about transition arrangements for the children which begins next week.  We recommend that you watch the video in our News Blogs made this week with the help of Kites with your child so that they can see what to expect if they haven't yet been into school yet this term.
  • MorningStars and SuperStars - Following government guidance, we are assessing the viability of operating MorningStars and SuperStars next term.  There are several aspects that we need to take into account, including numbers of children, staff and available space.  We would be very grateful if you could help us by completing the questionnaire attached here.
  • Second Hand Sale - Thank you so much for your kind donations and for helping us raise £274.72 in just two days!  That amount of money will pay for a whole day of research into ovarian cancer which could save many lives.

Sadly, due to the unsettled weather, we had to cut the sale short with little notice. Apologies - you cannot fail to admire the changeability of the English weather! However, we plan to complete the sale next week. Our current plan is to run the sale next Saturday, 18th of July.  This will also give us extra set up time and allow us to bring it onto the grassed area to give us even more room to socially distance. This plan is of course weather dependent so we will confirm this next week when we know more about how mid-July weather is looking. Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook feed for updates and we will also send out an update in next week's E-news.  Again, thank you!
